Identifying engine/outdrive package...

First I would like to say hello to everyone. I purchased my first boat early this season and used this forum extensively to find the information I needed for various different things. The time you guys put in here to help others out is great. These forums are a wealth of knowledge.

The boat I purchased is a 1998 Renken 21' Cuddy Cabin. It has a 4.3L Mercruiser with an Alpha One drive. What I'm trying to do is identify which engine I have from the many 4.3L, 4.3LX, 4.3LH, etc. Each time I try to do it myself I come across a chart that shows the serial # ranges, but mine could fit in a couple of those.

Please bear with me, as I'm new to being a boat owner, and though pretty well mechanically inclined, I have a lot more to learn. I'm trying to get there as fast as I can though. I've included the serial #'s of my engine and drive below and I'm hoping if someone can tell me which one I have, and which one of those lovely manuals I found on here that I'm going to need.

Engine: OL062621
Drive: OL135303

Ayuh,....

If you have a 2bbl. carb,... It's a 4.3l...

If it's a 4bbl. carb,... It's the 4.3LX....

Never heard of a 4.3LH....

Re: Identifying engine/outdrive package...

Thanks.

Next question...
How do I tell if it's a two-barrel or four-barrel? I've done work on all my cars all my life, but hey I'm only 27...even my first car was fuel injected...I don't know much of anything about carbs. Is there something I can visually look at and see?

The LX model designation stopped after 95, when for 2 years it was a LXH. Then Merc dropped the X and only used the H.
So, you either have a 98 4.3LH if it has a 4bbl carb or a 4.3L if you have a 2 bbl carb.

Thanks guys... I was able to figure out that I have a 2-bbl so it's the 4.3L. I appreciate your help figuring out...
