I'm trying to identify this outboard. I was told it was a 15hp with a 9.9 hp sticker. The manufac tag has been removed. It has some markings - on a silver tab on top of the cyl head : R8544951 : on stern bracket 330507D2 and 188149/13101. It came with a envinrude outboard manual that is copyrighted in 1989. Any help would be appreciated as I need to order some parts and want to ensure I have the correct model/year.

Re: Identify Evinrude outboard

Look on the top left side of the motor underneath where the wires come out from
under the flywheel. There is a silver plug a little smaller than a quarter. A lot of these
engines have the model type stamped on that plug. It should look something like "E10RCES"
if it's an '89 9.9 hp. Without that, the one thing I can
tell from your pictures is that the motor was made after late '85, because your tiller
mount is made for the cable type throttle control, as opposed to the loose gear drive
of earlier motors. The engine cowl is also a late '80's type with the beveled top corners.
So it could be an '89. You'll have to look at the inside bore of the carb to see if it's a
9.9 or 15 hp. You should spend some time on a site called "LeeRoy's Ramblings". It's a
wealth of information on these motors. Here's the url:

Somebody more familiar than I am with the part numbers might have more information.
Good luck!

appreciate the reply - the silver disc had the R8xx number but confirming it was a 80's model should be good enough. The link to leeroys ramblings appears to have some great info - thanks!
