On my 150, sometimes it will, and sometimes it wont, die after a start and shift. If I rev it in neutral to 2000 rpm a couple of times, let it come back to idle, then shift, it does ok. Sometimes it doesn't start right away after fishing, either...have to pump the hot foot.

Also seems to maybe have a miss at 3500 rpm or so. Runs fine, up to 5900RPM, and idles around 700-800.

Ideas?

It's not unusual for those motors to need some warm-up time before shifting, even if the motor is warm. Mostly it's a matter of getting any puddled fuel circulating. Until then, they start out quite rich in fuel. Revving it clears it out faster.

The miss could be radio interference from the spark messing with the electronic ignition. Supressor sparkplugs help. It's rare, but that's about where it happens if it's going to.

There are a bunch of tiny hoses running all over the front of that motor. Those take puddled fuel and redirect it. There are tiny check valves that keep the fuel flowing and by now those are probably clogged and/or sticky. It might be worthwhile cleaning out the bleed system. Compressed air, a can of carb spray, and a few common tools is all it takes. Do them one at a time or you'll get the hoses mixed up.

Thanks Willy. Will try all of those things. Glad to know it's not broken!
