Feel free to post your own ideas.
I visited an outdoor rifle range today that was closed to shooters but walking over to see it was perfectly fine. Went down the the end and saw all the lead that was washed out by the rain. It gave me a great idea. The bullets are the same shape as worm weights. Took some home to drill a hole in to test. Will post later as to how well they work.

Thrifty is one thing, silly is another. If you drill a hole, it`s going to leave a very rough inside finish and the outer edges will be sharp also.. Weights are cheap unless you buy Tungsten.

Also, in many states lead has been outlawed for fishing weights, jigs, etc. When you see these items on the shelves they are physicaly larger to get the same weight. Made from some type of alloy.

Oh well worth a try. Glad yall told me before I spent all that time testing it. Can still melt them down and pour in a mold since lead is still legal here in good ole' Georgia.
Still feel free to post your own.

I use a high number of jigs each year. About ten years ago, did the scrap lead and pour my own, with a friend who had the molds. It takes a bit of time to punch out 100 plus jig heads. You also have to remove the flashing from most of the jigs. Also tried the bulk unpainted way. Required multiple dippings and still didn't quite get the store brand level of paint quality. For a number of years now, I just buy prepainted in bulk. The thrifty parts comes from located good buys from ebay and other sources.

Well at my house its not the money thats the issue but its just the creativity factor. We make stuff we could buy just for the fun of making it.

BassBoy, Understand, I took thrifty to mean primarily interested in saving some money. There is a ton a stuff you can do when it comes to lure making. Over the years I have dabbled into a number of areas. Probably started in my early teens, when the $ was the main motivation, though. My first lure was just one of those 1/2" wide rubber bands, cut open and kinda shaped to a worm profile. Caught a good number of farm pond bass that day, that were not giving my livebait a second look. By my late teens, I had become very familiar with Herters and Netcraft companies, which were mail order houses for lure parts. Netcraft may be still around, but Herters is long gone.

Lure making I've dabbled in:
- Reconditioning old/beat-up lures
- many types of spinners
- Hardbody lure kits
- some flies
- some poppers
- creepy crawler soft plastics
- some lead heads
- Spoons
- many combinations of stuff

One thing that has caught my eye, is those soft plastic "welders" and soft plastic dyes.

Correct right there considering I'm only 13. But money isn't the main motivation. Creativity is naturally in my blood.

Bassboy, if your going to make lures you might as well make your own rods. Ive been into it for a while now. For 50/60 bucks you can build a rod you would pay 150/200 dollars for.

Here is one place to look.
