Hello all,
New register, 1st post. Just purchased an older Sears 12' V hull on ebay to replace my older Sears 12' jonboat which
was bent by ice in Catskill NY reservoir last year. Model no. is 581-60122-0 and I was wondering if anyone could tell me the age and any pertinent info on the model. It looks to be in nice original shape.
Thanks, and nice to be here.

Welcome to iboats!:welcome:

If there is no HIN on the transom, it was made prior to November 1, 1972 (or it was covered/removed). Chances are the maximum horsepower rating is 10, but if it's narrow of beam, it could be 7.5.

Thanks for the quick response. There is a serial no.IS22AR-0756 on tag. and it is rated at 10hp, 3 pers, 575lbs capacity
Is this the HIN? I am assuming hull id no? What's the general consensus about these? I do know that I had a lot of
respect for the 60's-70's vintage Sears 12' flat bottom that got bent up. That was rated @ 7.5 hp and 440 lbs.

Thanks again.

It wasn't called a HIN before 72 but yes it's as close as you'll get. The problem with tracking down anything on the older Sears boats is they had dozens of manufactures building them and sticking a Sears label on them. I tried tracking one once working with Sears (I've a family member that worked for Sears) and it ended in a dead end.

Left field question...
Does anyone have an idea about the approx width across center (oarlock to oarlock) of this Sears 12' v hull?
From pics, looks to be early 70's. Its rated 10 hp, 500 lbs. I bought it on ebay, and am contemplating whether I can haul it on top of my Saab.
Its a long distance away, and seller left on vaco before giving me the dimensions.
Any thoughts or comments whether this endeavor sounds viable greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Larry
