With Cape Ann having the biggest commercial freezer on the East Coast, 24 trailer trucks converged on this small city, loaded with ice destained for "New Orleans" and a total of 100 trucks will be arriving through out the week to off load!!! These truckers have been crisscrossing the United States since the beginning of September, after being turned away from New Orleans because of to much ice there!!! One fella said he sat for eight days there!!!!<br /><br />The truckers have been making $900.00 a day from the Federal Government while keeping there freezer units running 24 hrs. a day so the ice won't melt!!!!

Ya... and of course they store the stupid ice at the opposite end of the country that may need it soon. Take another week to truck it back again.

Its really amazing to me that they would do something like that. I use to work for a grocery company that had an ice making machine in meat and dairy warehouse that made some much ice in an hour that it kept 8 men totally busy stacking the 80 bales of ice on a pallet and thats 4 men each at two stations. 4 more stations could have easily been set up. It took 4 forecliffs to keep the pallets moving so ice machine wouldnt have to shut down or the men wouldnt have to wait.

Truck driver talks to local paper!!! <br />Truck driver Paul Kite said he would never had agreed to pick up the ice if he knew it was a FEMA job, because government orders often change!!! Once you pick up a load from FEMA, your stuck!!!<br /><br />Kite and his wife picked up their load in Newburgh, N.Y. Sept. 2nd and planned to make their delivery in Carthage,Miss. later that week!!! When they arrived in Carthage, 60 other trucks were in front of him waiting to unload!!! All of those trucks were told to take their loads to Maxwell Air Force Base, which was 750 miles away!!! It cost the government $90,000.00 to move that ice 750 miles away!!<br /><br />A frustrated Kite only 200 miles from cities that he said were on TV nightly pleading for help, offered to pay $1500.00 for his load of ice so that he could drive it down to the gulf Coast himself, he said. The offer was refused by FEMA!!! Three weeks later Kites truck is still carrying the same load of ice and traveled 1300 miles to Gloucester!!! When hurricane Charley blew thru Southwest Florida we were without power for 6 days. It didn't matter how much money one had there just wasn't any ice available anywhere. Earlier this year it was reported that in Ft. Myers they melted down about 3.5 million pounds of ice that was left over from the 04 hurricane season. It was valued at about 1.5 million $.

i was in san diego a few summers ago for 4th of july. we ran out of ice for the coolers on the beach. couldn't find any after visiting 10 different stores. where was fema then?
