My fish-camp Merc 9.9 2-stroke arrived Wednesday! It caused quite a stir when it was delivered to work by truck. Now it's sitting in the shed, waiting for winter to be over and it seems like it never will be! I guess the first step will be filling the trash can with water & starting it up as soon as the weather improves. It's like being a kid & having a candy counter just out of reach! :D :D

It looks to be in pretty good shape, just a little scuff on one of the decals, otherwise I'm impressed with the condition & how clean it is inside and out. I had a slight problem obtaining a tracking number, which I finally did, the day before it was delivered. Time from order to delivery was 10 days. Not bad from Manitoba to mid NY I suppose.

So next, I'm wondering what sort of speed I can expect. The setup is a 14' aluminum utility that weighs about 105 lbs., along with me (170 lb.), 3 gallon fuel tank, 10 lb. anchor, oars & a few pounds of misc. stuff.

My 14' Starcraft utlity weighs 225 lbs. & is powered by a 20 hp Merc and basically the same setup except a 6 gal. tank. With just me, it will hit about 29 mph.

I'm itching to see how it will compare!

I doubt that you will hit 29, but considering planing speed for a light boat is around 15-17 mph, you ought to get a good 20 out of it. I had a 12' Lowe Lake John with a 7.5 Merc all stock and it would run out real nice. Course a boater is never satisfied....always wants more speed and this and that.

Have fun,

Mark

My 12' with 9.9 Johnson with me on it weights a bit more than your setup, GPS says I'm going between 22-23MPH at WOT.

You've got yourself a nice light setup for those times when you're heading out by yourself into smaller or sheltered waters. I think you'll find a 3 gallon tank more than enough for a normal day's play.

That motor should get that boat up on plane real easy.

Congrats! :D

Finally, a spring day. I got to fill up the garbage can & start her up.

I pulled and pulled and pulled and pulled some more+++...until finally I thought to put the cutoff switch to "RUN". Then it fired right up! :D :D :D

Only a few more weeks until I can actually drive it. D'OH!

You did not foget to turn on the switch! You were just priming your new motor to prevent internal damage from a dry start! Anyway, that is the B.S. I give my son when I do that. ;)

Hope your maiden voyage is a fun and safe one!!

Yeah, my son laughed at me pretty good when I fessed up. Next time I'll try your reasoning!
