Jayshammer,<br />Thanks for the feedback and thanks for bringing this miscommunication to our attention. I asked the Manager of the engine department to look into this and this is what he told me.<br /><br />Mercury was absolutely right - we have offered their Product Protection Plans for a few years now. Although we sell the plans, unfortunately none of the promotional Optimax motors qualify for the extended coverage. As you can see on our engine page we market the Product Protection Plans only on the non-Optimax motors. We have discussed this in the past with Mercury and we would love to be able to offer their plans on the pre-owned Optimax motors that we carry, but according to Mercury none of them qualify for this coverage. The only time the extra protection is available on an Optimax is if you purchase it brand new. Therefore, because the motor that you purchased was pre-owned the original salesman was right and your motor did not qualify for this coverage. We hope that it won't be long before Mercury will start offering this protection on the pre-owned Optimax line but for now we are limited to offering it only on some of our non Optimax motors.<br /><br />I am not sure who you spoke to when you called in recently for details and I am not sure if they were familiar with your exact situation. In any event I will make sure that everyone in the engine team is properly re-trained pertaining to this issue.
