i would like to put a long shaft outboard on an extra long shaft transom 25&quot

i was just wondering what my options are i have a 1980 starcraft islander 22ft alum, that had a extra long shaft motor on it i want to switch it to a long shaft motor because they are easier to find . should i cut the transom down 5" or find some way to mount the motor with a jack plate or set back plate prblem with jack plates are that i dont wish to move out from the transom just down if ther is a product out there please tell me where because i cant seem to find any .thanks p.s. the motor that came with the boat is toast.
