I want to start this 1967 65 hp Mercury before going to the water, please give instructions on how to start in a tub, thanks.

Simply make sure the lower unit is in the water deep enough so the intakes for the water pump are submerged. (you can also use ear muffs and a garden hose). <br /><br />Start it up normally, keep it in neutral of course and keep your rpms down to under 1200.

It will be much quieter in a tub than witht he muffs, in case your neighbors are close.

Just use ear muff to see if it will start.

Just make sure the lower unit is submerged to a level where the pump is beloww water. Normal startup after that just dont shift into gear.
