I just purchased a 1992 Johnson 40 HP, Tested the motor when I purchased it and it started and ran great. I get it home and install it on my skiff hook the muffs ups and it fires right up runs for 45 seconds and shuts off I go to re start it and nothing. No clicking no anything when I turn the key. I checked the ignition switch its fine, I checked the neutral safety switch its fine, everything in the control box is working, all the connections are solid, battery is fully charged. It will turn over if i jump the starter soleniod but not start. Not sure where to go from here. Power pack?

Work your way from the switch to the starter solenoid with a test meter. Sounds like you blew a fuse, lost a connection or the solenoid relay is toast.

Power pack will not keep it from cranking with the key.

First thing I would do is check the 20 amp fuse. It will be located near the starter solenoid, in an inline fuse holder of some type.

As for the "no start" condition, the next thing I would do is unplug the big red electrical plug (harness to engine plug) and re-try jumping the solenoid.
Be aware that if it starts, you will not be able to shut it down with that plug disconnected. If you pull the air silencer cover beforehand, you can shut it down by choking with rags in the carb throats.

The above tests eliminate the boat side harness as being the problem.
