I had posted yesterday about the possibility of having spun my prop as a result of striking a sandbar. Some of the responses indicated that I should pull the prop and look for plastic/rubber shavings from the hub. I pulled the prop and cant really see any, is it still possible that I spun the prop even though there arent any shavings? It only ran out of gear for a few seconds before I shut the engine down, maybe because of this no shavings developed. Its my first time with this problem so all feedback is GREATLY appreciated.

Howdy, PC.

Shavings may be visible, but usually not.

Put the prop back on, mark a line that shows where the prop and hub align.

Run her until she does whatever you complained about in the first post, which you should have continued, rather than making a new topic. http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=17;t=009035

If the line is still lined up your prop is not spun. My bet is that it will be moved = spun hub.

Good luck. :)

Hey JB, thanks for pointing me in the way of proper etiquette on the forum. I see this as a goldmine of great info given by some very nice people. I actually had the feeling of being slightly long winded but wasnt sure how to go about streamlining the posts. Thanks again for the info. I was actually able to walk into a marina with info I got here and was able to dictate what I wanted with confidence. Excellent.Pat

Just in case what I encountered is NOT a spun prop, what else could have caused the problem I enecountered?(Going from forward to neutral at a very high rpm)The thing I found a little strange is that after hitting the sandbar, the engine ran the rest of the day without a problem, and much of the time it was WOT. It was only when I was coming into port going a bout 1/5 power that the problem occured. My own thought was, that if it is a spun prop, why didnt it disengage at the higher speed rather than the slower where I experienced the problem?

Hmmmm.

That's one reason why we don't want you to start a new topic, PC. Info gets left out.

If you ran around all day at WOT without a problem you probably don't have a spun prop.

You may have bent the shift fork or linkage. Do a shift linkage adjustment from your manual and you should be just fine.

Good luck. :)
