I/O freeze damage temp??

I just purchased a boat that has been kept in a heated garage all winter. I put it in my unheated garage 2 days ago. The temp has since dropped from 45F to 27 F then risen again to 36F. I now have a portable heater in the garage, hopefully keeping it above freezing. Does anyone think I could have some freeze damage with one night of below freezing weather??

I second the No.

It will take a harder freeze than that to cause engine damage.

I took out my boat last week we had 4 nights 26 29 26 27 and its fine you would have to have 8 straight nights of 22 or lower to be worried

Well in NH I would drain the block and manifolds just to be on the safe side, (like in case the power goes out during a cold snap). If you are going to own an IO of any kind, the first thing you should learn is how to drain the cooling system if the weather demands it. You can also disconnect the big hose that goes from the water pump to the thermo housing at the thermo housing, and fill the hose and block with AF. You can then do the same with the manifolds (disconnect the hoses that run from the thermo housing to the manifolds at the thermo housing and back fill with AF). Lastly you can disconnect the hose that comes from the outdrive to the thermo housing at the housing and back fill that one with AF too. Now you don't have to worry and can just leave it until your boating season starts.

You might think about putting 1/4" ball valves in place of the plugs that are in the block and exhaust manifolds. I just went down to the hardware store and picked up for of the ball valves.

Were I live the Temp goes fo 65 to 29 in just a couple of days, as I am sure everyone has to deal with this.

I was out fishing this weekend and when I was done I flipped all four valves drove home and do not have to worry about it.

Just my .02

Big Dog
