i/o change

i just purchased a complete alpha1 stearn drive from a 4 cyl.i want to install it into my 1979 305ci v8 mod1 will it fit or did i mess up?

Don't quote me on this...but I believe if the Alpha is not the Generation 2 series ...it'll fit on your type one. There might be an issue with the drive shaft length between the coupler and u-joint...but I'm not sure about that.<br /><br />I think you're gonna be fine, but let's wait for "those truly in the know" to respond.<br /><br />Walt

4 cyl gear ratio: 1.98:1<br />305 gear ratio : 1:50:1 or 1:65:1

Youll have to change the upper gears. All the lowers are 1:65 to one.

It won't work, I had same problem when I bought an Alpha from a 4 cy for my 350 GM, gear ratio is different. You have 2 choices, change upper gear ratio of drive or get another drive with 1.5:1 for V8s. You can try propping different, but I've told by many it won't last long.<br />I ended up trading mine for the right ratio, I din't want to take chances and blow drive in middle of water.
