I am about to purchase a fish finder. The one I have is over 10 years old. Technology changes, and I have not. Bells and whistles are not a big deal to me. Factual and reliable information is. So here is the questions... I'm looking at a Eagle FishEasy ST, comes with speed and temp included, has a 24 degree transducer. Also looking at Humminbird 200DX has dual transducer 20 degree and 53 degree, no speed or temp included. Both are $129.00 new. I want a unit that will show you the fish. Which is the better unit for fresh water situations??? Great forum and thanks for your input on the matter.

Go with "Raymarine 365" not in color but reasonable $$$. On my boat for 4 seasons, never a problem. Every once & a while make sure the transom mount sensor is cleaned.

Re: I need YOUR opinion...

Ziggy:
I have an Eagle that is 10 or 15 years old (eagle ultra). It belonged to my Dad. When he sold his last boat I grabbed it up, I knew I would some day have a boat of my own. When I bought my first boat this summer I fired it up and it still works like a charm. I replaced the wiring, tranducer and bought new mounting brackets. The people at Eagle / Lowrance were great with customer service, even sent me a couple parts I needed at no charge and replaced the faulty tranducer I bought at Galyans (just asked me to fax the reciept to them). I know the technology today is light years ahead of when this one was made, but for the freshwater lake fishing I do I'm as happy with it today as I was the day my Dad took it out of the Box. When I step up for a new one with all the bells and whistles, it will be an Eagle.

Giddyup!
Kramer

Yo, Ziggy! I have heard too many bad reports on Hummingbirds, mainly fogging screens, to consider it. The one Hummer I had was junk.

I have had good performance from every Eagle or Lowrance I have ever had, including a FishEasy.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

I will have to agee with the posts on the board. I have had Hummingbird graphs and compared to eagle or lowrance there is no comparison. You say that the last one you had lasted 10 years. If you are a committed fisherman(fish more than 30 times a year) I would go with a Lowrance any of their models will last you at least 10 more years. If you are the occasional fisherman go with Eagle(good quality but few features)
Stay away from hummingbird they are crap. Made for someone who knows nothing about real fishing or at least someone who knows nothing about a good graph.

Hey Daveid, ya sure you dont have a vested interest in that toy? Every post I read, there you are hawking that gameboy.I for one prefer to mount my FF to the dash, not my palm.I also like more power(as in 12 V) & better resolution than 10 x 10 pixels. Maybe sell it on Toys r us.

the only use I could honestly see for that maybe ice fishin or make tranducer float with long cable for shorefishermen.

Re: I need YOUR opinion...

I was looking at finders a couple weeks back. I was going to go with a humminbird but I'm glad I didn't. I was going to go with an eagle (the fisheasy) but I still wasn't happy with the resolution on it 128). I ended up going with the Garmin 160. I'm real happy with it and the resolution is great (160 x 160). Temp. comes standard. It is a little more expensive and the cone angle is narrower than others but that just works out to be more detail. The cone angle is 20 degrees and the price was $199.99. I'm glad I went ahead and spent the extra money!

Shane
