I need to set my gears...

but i dont have a gauge...BUT I can make a guage!!! if i knew the dimensions the guage sets!!

I have a 1988 Evinrude 70 hp...and I am going to be reassembling the lower unit soon.

I need to shim the gears for the proper fit on both driveshafts.

can anyone help me? thanks

The service manual does not give that dimension, only the part number of the guage. The dimension is stamped on the guage, so go to a shop, and see if they will let you look at the guage, and write it down. Worth a try. Only the pinion gear on the drive shaft is shim'ed

ha ha..u were lucky

I went to a bank about 20 years ago for a loan...

the lady went through 16 pages of robert johnsons, on her computer, before she got to the robert a. johnson's

then 20 more pages to get to the robert c. johnsons

then she gave up!! ha ha ha

most mechanics wont be telling you info that keeps them from making moeny.

and getting a arely used tool in their hand so you can get a gander at it...well.....I wont hold my breath.

I do have a mechanic I have spent a lot of money with who told me NOT TO TAKE THIS UNIT APART!!!

but i did and it was easy and didnt fall apart.. so he may help me
