I am on a worldwide search for Evinrude 70HP 2 stroke outboards. I am looking for 210 engines (told you it was a lot!), but will consider buying in smaller quantities. I would also need them shipping to the UK. I am not in a desperate hurry for all 210, but would like to get as many engines ASAP, ideally around 70. Must be new, must be 2 stroke, must be Evinrudes.

I wish I had a few hundred for you, but I don't. Actually, I am really curious as to why someone would want 210, all 2 stroke, all Evenrude. Are ya gonna try to push the Titanic?????? Just wondering, but at least this will put you back at the top of the board. Good Luck

I work for the RNLI (www.lifeboats.org.uk), which is the UK equivalent of the US Coastguard - sort of! We have a couple of hundred boats each with two of these on, but we inversion proof the engines. So to change all our engineering and spares stock to another engine would be very difficult. We break about 6 engines a month, so 210 engines is about 3 years supply.

Ever thought of calling the manufacture??
I would think that purchasing 210 70HP engines would entitle you to a very big discount. At least, I would be looking for one, a discount that is....

The manufacturer, OMC/Bombardier about as much help as a chocolate tire lever. Evinrude stopped making 2 strokes a couple of years ago, so I am looking for old new stock (??). failing that, I will have to buy Johnsons and take the block and gearcase out, and put them in an Evinrude shell (back to the inversion proofing problem). Because of the OMC/Bombardier takeover, there has been little or no production of either engine, so they cannot supply me with a large quantity. Of engines, that is! ;-)

We 'inversion proof' the engines because the lifeboat crews practice turning the boat (7 metre/24 foot RIB) over. It stops any water getting into the engine, so it can be started as soon as the boat is turned the right way up. We have other boats who's engines don't have this facility, and although the re-start procedure only takes 5 minutes, if you're at sea at 4 in the morning and you've just been capsized... chances are you're pretty pissed off!

Went to your website... I guess you are addressing the "orange raft" boats that are shown???

Noticed where you are implementing hoover-craft at certain stations... are these additional pieces of equipment or are they to replace these existing raft/boats???

Thank you for the reply.

I guess you mean the Atlantic 75 when you say orange raft boat????
The hovercraft is something that we are trialling at the moment; it will not replace any lifeboat but may be stationed where there are mudflats, reed beds etc., where the standard boats cannot go. They are restricted by wind (recent case of it being at a rather precarious angle in 35 knot wind!) and wave height. It is still being trialled around the UK, but if everything goes to plan it will be operational 2002/2003. And I still haven't got a ride in it!

I know this may not help much but a couple of friends of mine own the local Evinrude dealership and they has one new one left. It's a long way from your goal but it's one less you have to find. Call Chuck or Tim at Gator Creek Marine. 941-639-3446. Tell 'em I said hi.

Good luck!
