How about a few more details? Are we talking about a 305 [5 litre] or 350 [5.7 litre] Chevrolet based engine, or a 302 [5 litre] Ford, or what? Either way, the wrecking yards are full of them. $300 should net you a decent unit.

If you are going to do a rebuild it is a must to balance the whole motor. You will not be sorry. A 100.00 to 150.00 bucks will extend the life of your motor by more then 25%. Cant beat that. Also think about all the upgrades cam, timing chain, oil pump before you start. Myself I would do a master rebuild kit (cam, lifters, piston heads, oil pump, time chain ect and all gaskets for around 200.00 from Northern. Most important though is balancing the motor. One last thing. Take pictures of you motor before you take it apart. It makes it real easy to figure out how that bracket goes back on.

f_inscreenname; You can get a rebuild kit with cam, lifters, timing set, pistons, oil pump and a complete gasket set for $200???

I agree with you on the balance job: Money well spent, with no down side.

Buy a used camcorder and make a movie of yourself as you disassemble things, you can include audio commentary. Although some of it may be x-rated!

I found this place through a friend. Master rebuild kit for a Chevy 350 - piston heads, rings, bearings, timing chain, cam, lifters, oil pump, all gaskets, freeze plugs (upgrade to brass for 5 bucks) and you will have to upgrade to marine head gaskets also. Total cost .......$154.99............. I built a 320hp mopar 360ci for under 350.00 (except for the heads, they cost 750.00 for new magnum swirl heads) through them. If you know your specs on the cam and ect that you want your are set. If not they will help you out as much as they can. There address is http://www.naparts.com/ there web site isn't the greatest but if you don't find what you are looking for its worth the phone call (1-800-831-0884) and you have to get parts book (magazine). You wont be sorry.
P.S. They are all quality name brand parts and you can upgrade or change anything you want in the master kit for very little money.
