Ok, I have a twin 318s and minor parts that needed replacing were replaced over the years.
The boat is a 1977 striaght inboard. The Manifold & rises are very rusty at the joints and are due for change.

Question. If a compression test is done this spring, and it seems to be fine, if I replace ALL MANIFOLDS AND RISERS ON BOTH ENGINES, would this be enough to consider this "preventive medicine"?

What I'm trying to say is, if I do the compression test and change all Manifolds & risers, can I say " its in gods hands now, I've done all I can to prevent engine failure"

Or is there other things to keep these puppys going for a few more years?

Thanks,
Lou

IF the Compression Test shows 15% differences Or Less..... And you change your manifolds + Risers....( along with your usual Tune-up,+ Service)
I'd say Yes...

Just to add to Bondo's comments..

As long as your oil pressure is good with at least 15-20psi at idle and an additional 10 psi for every 1000 rpms... As an example, engine running 2500rpm with about 30psi oil pressure or more at operating temps, would be comfortable and totally acceptable..

If very high engine hours, there might be grounds for a timing chain replacement cause they do tend to s-t-r-e-c-h out after a while, in some cases... "Play" in the chain will cause a definate power loss and difficulty with getting proper ignition timing as well as sloppy camshaft timing...
