I need to build a hitch to haul my 26' flybridge. I'm guessing about 10 to 12,000 lbs.

It's on a Caulkins trailer. Darn thing is built for a tank!

I have a 2-wheel drive F350 with a dually 1 1/2 ton rear axle stuffed underneath.

I would like to make my own hitch, as I have access to just about any metal working tool for the job.

Does anyone have any plans for this?

I'm familiar with the standard class 2 or 3, but what's different about a class 4 or 5? I've seen them on the net, but they don't look different.

??

H.

If I were you, I would BUY a class 4 (10,000 rating with weight distribution) or a class 5 (12,000 with weight distribution).

These things are pretty cheap ($100-$200) delivered and ready to bolt on.

The contents of the trailers I pull is well worth the cost of the hitch.

If you make one, you need to be sure it fits, heat treated or not, stress relieved, will you have to drill any holes, etc. plus spending a lot of time.

After saying this, I did have a hitch made for the back of my travel trailer since they don't make one for it. I had to have it made, but my boat doesn't weigh much (under 1500 pounds).

Good luck

A class IV will only set you back between $200 and $300. I upgraded from a III to a IV just recently, and they only appear slightly different. RV dealerships can usually provide what you need, and at a decent price.

many times the design isn't changed, just heavier, stronger parts are used... there's only so many holes/places on your truck frame to work with.....
