Like a dufus I broke one of the 'ears' that hold the float in place.

EDIT

It seems like it will still hold the float in place but I travel to some pretty remote places and I would feel a lot better with a replacement.

Once I put the bowl back on I don't see how it can move as the broke ear will be jammed up against the side of the bowl. Just one of those things that will be in the back of my mind every time I take the boat out. At present it functions properly but for how long...

It came off of a 1985 50 hp 4 cyl # Mercury outboard serial #6485532

Man, I still cant believe I broke it.

Re: Update

This is too strange... I have a 4 cylinder Mariner 1991 that I just picked up to resell.. Had been sitting for 4 years so tore the carbs off and apart.. Wonderful Merc has the pin that holds the float and needle jamed in so I take a punch that was just a tad too big..Guess what I did....broke both towers off...I am J.B welding one back tonight and will put the second one that still has the pin in it through the float tomorrow night..There really isn't any pressure there other than to let the float pivot. That carb is $300 and you wouldn;t want to be my neighbor last night...Wished I had see your post earlier... I usually buy newer motors to resell but the deal was too good on this one..Well it was a good deal till I got stupid...........Try J.B. Weld..I will let you know if it works as my were knocked clean off.............
