this outboard was totally locked up, i soaked the cylinders with pb blaster and got it to move, it was tight but it rotated.
i pulled the lower leg off to ensure there was no issue there and now the crank only moved slightly back & forth, about 20-30 degrees.
is there anything that can be locking it , like when i removed the leg is there a safety of any sorts? my next move is to pull the head off but id rather not waste time on that if there is something intentually holding it from turning.
it is a model # e8rccs

Did the motor rotate 360 degrees or more by turning the flywheel?

If the gearcase is off the midsection then there isn't anything that should restricts it's movements. If you can't get the gear case off...that's a different scenario.

patience... my $50 turtle was locked solid ( which is why the seller did not argue about me buying an anchor !)

I took off the cyl head. (gaskets are cheap anyway) soaked and soaked it took a week to free it up. in slow increments.

used a 1 inch round peg and hammer to alternate firm wacks on the pistons and it slowly gave gave way to happiness.

Perfect kicker... purred all day long ...but I later replaced it with a 4hp Merc to save fuel.. Turtle is sleeping in the garage since.

btw $8 a gal in Montreal today :-(

the crank rotated completely several times and i was able to pull the cord and make it rotate but as i said, very still, more pulling would have broken the cord.
the leg came off without an issue. but like i said, now, only turns back & forth about 20-30 degreees.

sounds bad if it did rotate 360 at one point... Racerone may be right !
broken something...? may as well pull the cyl head check the walls for bad scrapes.

got it, i pulled the head, both cylinders moving slightly and just kept working it. finally it got looser and looser. i threw the head back on with the old gasket and she fired over.
ill be ordering some parts now that i know she will turn.
carb kit, water pump kit, head gasket,

still lots of stuff stiff on this thing. the throttle turns but very tough, the lock for the tilt is frozen and wont allow it to raise,
i should also propably get a fuel pump kit, god knows that must be dry rotted

I've done them before, crosby exactly right...wood dowel and hammer. Did it to a 250 HP ones years ago and it's still running today. Rings get stuck. Best to pickle the crapola out of it....as for the other stuff, heat and your favorite penetrant.

All fun but it won't be the best motor on the planet.

Good for you!
