I have a hitch,but no trailor light connectors on my van

So is there a way to create a switch and battery pack so i dont have to use my car has the controller of the trailer?I was thinking like jury rigging a switch that would toggle the turn signals.and another switch to turn both on at night.and one of corse to toggle a stop.Maybe the stop on i can rigg under the brake peddal.<br /><br />by the way the van i speak of is a pontiac trans sport from 1992.

Most any auto supply will have what you need. Won't be that expensive to have a "real" plug-in on your van. Good Luck

good lord NO..!!<br /><br />you can't have 'toggle' switch controlled trailer lites..<br /><br />really,, bad idea.. <br /><br />do it right or pay to have it done..

to better explain- stop by an auto parts dealer and explain the situation. they will sell you a harness specifically for your van. in about 30 minutes you can install yourself. it usually requires unplugging the cords that run to one or both of your rear tail lights. the harness is then wired to be inline of the cord you disconnected. you will then have a trailer light connection that works off your vehicle's left/right turn signals and break signal.<br /><br />good luck-

You can buy them at any Wal Mart too. They carry pretty much every one made. It makes hookup a 10 minute job.<br /><br />As to being able make the trailer a self sufficient lighted unit you could do it, but to activate it you'd still have to have the standard hookup, just run each lead to its own relay ($5 each) and then power the lights off the switched side of the relay. I have no idea at all why you would want to do this, but you certainly could do it if you wanted to.<br /><br />Thom
