I just had my 454 mercruiser rebuilt. I have a hard time starting it. I noticed the rod to the choke spring was missing. The marina told me not to worry not a big deal just play with the throttle until it starts. Well I have prolems with it starting. Ist htis just something I can make out of hanger there is nothing technical about this is there?

You should be able to make something out of a sturdy piece of wire. The carb manuals have you bend the rod(wire) to adjust so that when cold choke is closed fully, and opens fully upon engine warming up. Shouldn't be a big deal.

i would make the people you just paid good money too replace the part if it was there when they started it should be there NOW

the boat is never going to start right with out the right choke parts and its a bad idea to use homemade parts on a carb

tommays
