Hi,

I'm about to wire up my old 1993 Camry for a trailer. I thought I could just splice into the wires going to the tail/brake lights.

Seems that I need a "black Box" gadget that costs about $40.00.

It takes a direct feed from the battery.

Do I really need this? It seems that the consensus of directions at the various trailer-hitch websites indicate that it's essential... I really don't understand why though.

Thanks for reading, Chuck

Your car uses 2 Seperate Circuits to power the Stop lights,+ the Turn Signal lights,.........

Trailers use the Same Circuit for Both the Stop,+ Turn Signal lights..............

Without the Box,.........

You'll have Either your Stop lights,...... Or the Turn Signals,..........
But,.....
Not Both.......

There are some that only wire inline with the lights, and do not take a feed off of the battery. The ones that take current directly from the battery will result in brighter lights.
