You will be lucky to get 2 -3 years from a new one if you are on well water.

They don't make anything like they used to.

Oh that brings memories of my not to distance coffee issues. We have a Cuisinart SS-700 K-cup coffee maker that we've used for years. One day after we made our morning coffee for breakfast, it stopped work. It flashed on the screen "Not Ready" and would not turn off, or do anything else regardless what I tried to do. I even unplugged it hopes to reset the processor inside. Nothing helped. So I made the decision to open it up. Of course there were so many tubes and wires and such that I couldn't find anything that could be wrong. But it still flashed "Not Ready" without any change. After a few weeks of no success, we bought another one of the exact same brand and model being how long the original lasted. Then one day I was searching the web again for the problem (don't ask me why) and came across a person with the exact same problem with the exact same model. And somebody replied that all you have to do was press and hold two buttons on the front of the coffee maker and it resets the processor. So I rushed to our older one to try it out and low and behold it reset and worded perfectly again.... So now I have TWO coffee makers that work perfectly. Problem is these coffee makers are not cheap and I bought two of them... Oh the pain, the pain... :frusty:

My Fred's Dollar Store $18 twelve cup Mr. Coffee is still going 'stong' at ten years old......now that I've bragged on it, it will die in the morning and I'll be foced to break out the old Presto electric percolator and if it fails next in line is the stove top percolator then 'Cowboy Coffee' after that!!

I don't drink the stuff but the rest if the family does. DW uses the Keurig as does the rest of her family. Die stake some maintenance to keep it from plugging up. DS uses a commercial Bunn machine. Takes all of about 30secs to make a 12cup pot. It is so fast that grounds have to be in filter, in place before water is added or hot water will be through machine before you get the chance to get them ready.

The Bunns are nice for the speed but not the most efficient because they keep a hot water tank heated all the time. I have a Kitchenaid. You can program all kinds of stuff to get it to give you the perfect cup of coffee.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I'll be 61 next month and have never drank it. Not once. Tried a sip once, no taste for it.

Mellitta one-cup filter. Boil water, put in a a paper filter, add coffee, add water. Nothing better than a fresh cup of coffee every time! Even better, they never break down! They will last longer than you!

Actually the one DS has doesn't keep a supply of hot water. It only heats a single pot of water, the same as a regular percolator. It just heats it up incredibly fast as it runs through the machine.

We also have a Cuisinart, we never use our tap water, just bottled water so there has been no build up of calcium or iron or any other junk.

Lately (past few years) we buy different coffee beans, grind them up and do our own mix.

I hope you are using it with Reverse Osmosis water and then still doing the 6 mo vinegar cleaning. The newer Keurigs will only accept K-Cups that have a chip in them. Even the older genuine K-cups will not work in them. You do not want to have to buy a new one.

Using Reverse Osmosis water, I had a Mr Coffee last for 20 years. Even at that, it was the electronics that died, not the water heater.

You hear that all the time but that's not been our experience. Ours is going on 5 years now. Well water...maybe the difference? Have only cleaned it a couple of times since new and it gets used heavier than most. Four coffee / tea drinkers in the house. 35-40 "Cups" per week is a conservative estimate. If I work from home, I'll go thru 5-6 cups a day alone.

I don't see a need to buy a machine anytime too soon, fingers crossed, but even so, all you need to defeat a Keurig 2.0 is a "freedom clip". Some of Keurig's K-cup competitors are giving them away for free in their boxes of coffee.

I agree with dingbat. DW uses a Keurig. Ours is also about 5yrs old. Have only cleaned it a couple of times. A few in the family have one also. They seem to have more trouble than we do, but they also shut them off when not actually brewing a cup. That may have something to do with it.

you might want to consider a bunn coffee maker.not cheap at about 130 for a 12 cupper.at my place of employment we had a double bunn maker that was around a grand.now realize it made about 60 or more pots of coffee a week for at least ten or 15 years!just checked out amazon and was shocked at how much the bunns were .
