The old saying, measure twice, cut once. I can't read a ruler I guess ... Because the perment fix for raising my transom went too high??? So now I'm going to maybe take it down a half inch?? On flat water is runs very nice at about 6000 rpm's. when choppy water , which is every day it sets too high, rpm's drop to about 5400. I'm measureing the rpm's with a tiny tach?? it want's to ventilate??
Now for the other problem, idle RPM'S... 1300-1425 in gear , out of gear 1300-1350 rpm's...Way too fast for me??
Does the wires that are wrapped around the spark plug wire need to be real tight if so I'll have to tape them??
Another Senior Moment... :blue::grumpy:

Are you ventilating? If so, lower it some. Typically, ventilation would result in over-revving. 5400 is OK... 5750 would be better for max output. Anything over 6000 is too much.

Your idle (if being measured accurately) is set too fast. Verify that in either the owner's manual, or the FSM.

Check with the tach manufacturer re installation. Since we use the Factory tach, we don't experience that particular issue.

can I splice a clip on to the wire an then attach it to the spark plug wire for a tight fit... The service manual says 950 idle , I need to see if the tach is correct??? as for ventilating , just very close to it, in rough water it will I think. in calm water no . it did measure 6000 in calm water and around 5400 + into a 10-15 mph wind. If I back off the a little on speed it settles down?? just a hair

Going a little lower may help some.
Ask the tach manufacturer about the pickup wire...
