I looked all over the engine, and felt with my hand. I don't feel a drain plug on the plan, where is it suppose to be ? one service manual I read made it look to be captain side of the engine, behind the starter. I don't feel it there.

I bought a tool to 'suck' the oil out from walmart, said to warm the engine and stick the tube down the dipstick hole. It won't fit! You can man handle it maybe 1/2" before it just won't go further. I tried taking the dip stick tube out, and still won't fit in that hole either, and im a bit worried about forcing it in that one.

Any suggestions? I don't want to just take the filter off and turn the motor over, that seems the least effective and most, potentially, damaging on the engine.

1978 model, merc 260 with a chevy 350.

I have similar engine, 1979 though, and I access the drain plug on the port side. Have to remove the rear jump seat and stand on my head to get it. Good luck!

Not sure, but I believe the dipstick tube goes all the way to the bottom of the pan, so if you stick the pump tube into the dipstick tube so that it makes a good seal you should be able to pump the oil out.

Ayuh,... How long is the piece that goes inside the block,...
If original, it should be inches long to reach the bottom of the pan,...
If automotive, it'll be 'bout 1/2"...

Drainin' the oil into the bilge is a pretty Messy way of doin' it....
I have the Mouller pump out unit, 'n Love it...
My motor also has an extension on the drain to pull out through the garboard plug hole...

The bottom of a Chevy oil pan is only 'bout 8"sq...
If there's a drain plug, it's on 1 of the side edges, or centered on the back edge, or dead center...

Found a different pump, from O'Reilly. It's a multi use one and comes with an adapter and much thinner hose for draining oil. This one will go down the dipstick tube and into the bottom of the pan.

Thanks guys!
