Knute (the heathen) and I made a fast trip to Florida earlier this month and were met by Knute's brother.
Problem #1: Knute and I arrive at the "resort" after dark and it's raining. We've never been to this resort/campground. We can't locate cabin 8. We drive around the property hoping that Randy will at least turn on the porch light. I rolled down the car window and hollered, "Randy!!" There he stood on the darkened porch. I asked him why he didn't turn the light on and he said the bulb must be burned out. I went to a lamp in the living room area and "stole" a bulb to put in the porch socket. Before I even unscrewed the "burned out" bulb I noticed a pull switch on the light fixture. Yep, I just pulled the chain and the light came on. There was a wall switch on the porch and that was how Randy had attempted to turn the light on.
Problem #2: The next morning we're ready to fish. Randy tells us to release the dock lines as he tries to start the motor. Rrrrrrrr, nothing. He tries again and again but the motor won't start. I ask, "Is the kill switch attached?" Problem #2 solved.
Problem #3: We arrive at out fishing spot and fish for a few hours. We get ready to move and once again Randy can't start the motor. This time it's dead. Nothing happens when he turns the key. He asks me to check the battery connections. I replied, "Is the motor in neutral or in gear?" Yep, he had left the throttle in gear.
I'm starting to feel like a genius around Randy. Oh, he's a retired lawyer that worked for a major oil company.
