I caught a fisherman

Went camping last weekend with the party barge up at fort desoto. The weather wasn't so great but we decided to do a little fishing anyway. On the way out we went under the bridge and noticed a guy standing on the bridge piling fishing and looked to be having a good time. I couldn't help but tell my dad what a fool the guy was in the rough weather with his 8 ft aluminum boat tied up to the piling and continued on to the next bridge to get out of the wind and pretty heavy chop but didnt catch a thing. On the way back I couldn't help see the mans hand waving frantically over the bridge fender but couldn't see the rest of the guy. I came around to the other side of the fender to see him hanging on to his boat with one hand and waving the other in the air. I pulled up and he jumped right on my boat happy to be alive. As I pulled him and his overturned boat to shore it occurred to me that seatow had just passed through just before I did and I asked the man if he had seen them. I was amazed when the man told me that he had spoken to the operator of the seatow vessel and the man said he would call it in to the coastgaurd and went on his way.

Not sure you can consider that a "catch" if he jumped in the boat...

In defense of Sea Tow if you are not in distress and not a member... they will make a courtesy call to the Coast Guard for you since they are the equivalent to AAA for the road. If you breakdown on the highway are you going to blame AAA for being stranded because you didn't pay for their services and give you a free tow?

A breakdown on the highway is a big difference than hanging onto an overturned boat in the water.

I thought sea tow would tow non-members but charge full freight? And maybe he was on a call? But if a boat is sunk, every boat should stop and help.

And to add... the reference to people from China is so outdated in today's world.
If the guy was in the water, clinging to his boat as described, SeaTow could be in big trouble for not giving aid to a vessel in distress. are they not?

If you read the OP, the guy was on the bridge still, but his boat had flipped.

I guess maybe he was still on the bridge abutment. I thought when I read it he was in the water hanging onto the overturned boat.

That's the way I read it....but also I'm hoping that the tow guys wouldn't have left him if he HAD been hanging on to the upside-down boat. (hopefully that is not too great a leap of faith. ;) )

Never heard of Seatow, but I agree with you "Home Cookin" that everyone should help if someone is in trouble on the water. I have personally towed in at least 3 boats in the past couple years, and I actually had to be towed in my self once.

Good karma goes a long way too.

being a nice guy can cause problems also...I pulled up to a boat in the middle of the lake 2 weekends ago...They had their engine compartment opened and were stopped...I pulled up to see the driver standing on the swim platform peeing in the water...The kids got a show and had a few uncomfortable questions afterwards...
