I cant seem to find a LIGHTWEIGHT, spandex/elastic boat "dust cover"??

i have a 17 foot runabout- with a windshield- typical layout.

Ive seen nice light stretchy covers for jetskis and motor hoods..- you take em off, roll em up in a ball, and they pack very small - just enough protection for UV, dust, etc..

.....does anyone make a basic boat cover that super light/easy to use & "stretch to fit"???

I would like something stretchy, with a bungee/elastic edge, that VERY lightweight - just to keep off the dust, sun and lite drizzle - not for towing

I use a thin, clear painters tarp to loosely drape over the boat in storage now, to keep dust off. I like it because its so light.

But i want something more finished, and that wont blow off as soon as i roll it out of the garage...yet i dont want a heavier weight sunbrella or canvas.

Judging by the size of some rear ends I see squeezing into spandex shorts at Walmart, I suspect you could probably strech a pair of them over a boat

I think the reason you can't find it in spandex is spandex will allow rainwater to pass, and make it more difficult to dry out. This would lead to mold, mildew, and rot issues for your average boat user.

I have 2 huge Laurel Oaks (that's what the neighbor said they are) that drop leaves all year, and are now starting to drop really, really soft juicy berries everywhere. First thing I have to do before every outing is sweep up the boat. It'll be fun once the berries make it out to the boat! I also have been looking for a cheap, lightweight cover, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with a mesh tarp, like they use on dumptrucks to cover their loads. The mesh is small enough to keep the leaves and berries out, and shouldn't weigh more then a few pounds. May not be dustproof enough for you, though.

I consider myself a google expert as well and the best thing I found was something about a couple guys that made boat covers out of parachutes, and a couple that made them out of sewed together and elastic bound bed sheets. I gave it a honest try, mainly because I also thought that would be a great idea, but to no avail. Well keep my eye out for you, good luck.

Beefer, just be careful with the berries sitting on the mesh and the water slowly passing through. I had a similar situation where the rainwater actually made a "tea" out of the berries and stained my boat horribly. Took a hell of alot of work to wash the stains off the fiberglass.

Try this one:

Harbor Shell Universal Boat Covers
Lightweight storage and mooring covers for Inboard/Outboard or Outboard boats. Made from 210 denier 4.2 oz. polyester. 100% breathable and water repellent, featuring a sewn-in shock cord for a “custom-look” fit. Navy.

FEATURES:
Sewn-in motor cover for Outboards, Mesh storage bag, Non-trailerable, 3-Year Warranty prorated by manufacturer.
Available for:
Euro V-Hull (With curved shield and molded-in swim platform), V-Hull (Open or closed bow with windshield), Tri-Hull (Open or closed bow with windshield), Ski Boat (Inboard or Outboard with low profile or no windshield), Cuddy Cabin

It is very lightweight (like parachute material) and has elastic all the way around it. That's what holds it in place, just the elastic cord and not tie downs. (sort of like a fitted sheet on your bed). We use it for our runabout that is stored on the boat lift to keep dust/cottonwood/bugs/etc. off and it works great.

Now I'm looking for the same thing for a pontoon boat...
