Hello everyone, I am somewhat new to this forum. I have an 1994 4 cylinder Mercruiser AlphaOne MCM 3.0L/LX Digital Electronic Ignition System and I’ve spent many hours going through the different forums in hopes that I could find an answer to my current issue. I bought this 1994 glastron boat for $4600. I was able to use it 3x then the engine started having issues with the choke sticking.
I took it to a boat repair shop and I had them do a complete check on everything. They found that the block was cracked and $4800 later it’s supposedly fixed. After it was verified able to start I then took it to the local lake, put it on the water and it still didn’t start. I took it back to them to look at it and of course it was the choke. I asked if they even checked it? That was the main reason I brought it in for. They found a ground wire to be the culprit.
After using it 1x I then put it in storage for about 3 months then pulled it out and put it into the water and tried to start it and nothing happened.
I replaced the battery and turned the ignition one time and the starter seized up. I replaced the starter/solenoid and got the engine to turn over but it still wouldn’t start. I replaced relay coil, plugs, wires, distributor, ignition switch investing another $1000. It still wouldn’t start.
I got rid of the old gas from the tank, gas lines, carb, and gas pump. After putting in new gas it’s acting like it wants to start but still won’t. At this point and time I just replaced the mercarb with a new one. After doing so, I turned the ignition key and the boat turn on without fail. It idles perfectly.
I took it out on the water and again it started right up. I put the throttle forward and kept nudging it even more forward and it became very noticeable that the RPMs have now become a major issue. The RPMs are hitting well over 6000. I’m afraid I’m going to blow the engine.
So I’m asking, is there anyone out there that might be able to point me in the right direction in resolving this over the top outrageous RPM issue I’m having?
