I replaced my prop today and when I was turning it clockwise by hand (out of gear) I noticed I can hear the gears turning in the lower unit. I wouldn't call if loud, just enough to catch my attention.

Is this common or should I shop for a new lower unit?

See sig for specifics.

Ayuh,... Hard ta say, as in neutral, only the propshaft turns, 'n the 2 gears on it, aren't engaged to any other gears...

Sounds like it's right at the bottom where the prop shaft meets the vertical shaft that goes up to the top of the outdrive. Yes, in nuetral. Haven't had any issues shifting.
