Can anyone help? Steering is stiff, has oil and 30lbs of air. Unhooked engines and still stiff. Motors turn freely, steering alittle better, but not much. Any suggestion appreciated.

Re: Hynautic Steering

You may want to try and bypass the ram or rams by looping the hydroulics circuit. If this makes it better, or solves the stiffness, the ram or rams are stiff or starting to sieze up.
If its still stiff, eliminate the hoses by looping at the helm.
This is called process of elimination, starting at the furthest point. If the siffness is still present, than the problem lies in the helm unit itself.
OK ? Good luck.

Thanks for the input. I have disconnected the hoses from the cylinders and they slide in and out pretty easily. I don't think it is the cylinders. If I connect the supply and return hoses, I should be able to circulate fluid with the helm Right??

Yes, Thats correct. You can loop it with a fitting to connect the two, or submerge both in an oil canister of some sort. But if its a pressurized system, you must use a fitting.
Don't forget to relieve the pressure prior to breaking open any fittings. then re pressurize for test.

I use the teleflex seastar fluid. From what I've found out, the system is naturally stiff.

Thanks

I have the same system on my 1989 23 Seacraft Wa and I would agree with your statement that they are naturally stiff, but not hard to turn. I have never had a problem with it.
