A long sad tale::mad::mad::mad:
Repowered last year my Carver with twin 5.7 L Cursaders inboard Powerpacks, fresh water cooled with Walters v-drives. Manifolds and risers are only three years old.
Port engine hydrolocked up this Sept. and blew a rod. Discovered freshwater in several cylinders and wrong plugs in both engines (put in by the guy who repowered). After a nearly 6 week ordeal with mechanic and manufacturer, I had to pay (though still under warrantee) for replacement engine. Port engine now running fine. BUT, plugs in other engine were changed to AC Delco 41-993 platinum when the port engine was just replaced, and I now have had a problem with this engine with saltwater in cylinders and a locked engine. Plugs recommended by manufacturer are AC Delco 41-932 but I have been told that the new number is 41-993. COuld it be the plugs? Dieseling? (I didn't hear it diesel but I was told it could run in reverse if dieseling). Risers? Flaps? Engine was running fine before the plug switch. Gap is 60 thousandths. Any suggestions?

The number one source of water in a marine engine is the exhaust manifolds/risers/ The #2 reason is the manifolds/risers. The numer 3 reason is the manifolds/risers.
Even at "only" three years old, salt water could have killed 'em.
If it's not the exhaust manifolds/risers, then I am not sure what to tell you.

You do alot of sport fishing ? marlin , tuna ? I read somewhere a lot of hard "reversing " can force water up the exhaust

water getting into the engine VIA risers and manifolds would it make it all the way down in the crank case?

Re: Hydrolocking Crusader 5.7

Thanks for the advice. Any thoughts in the plugs? What if gapped too large at 60 thousandths? Could that cause the dieseling and reverse flow?
Before I pull the boat for the winter to inspect the exhaust, I may try swapping plugs, as that is the only thing that changed on this engine before the problem began.
No hard reverse from backing down.

Re: Hydrolocking Crusader 5.7

Spark plugs should have nothing to do with hydrolock.
Manifolds and risers are 3 years old, but the riser gasket could be bad.
