So I guess I have to replace this and I guess it is good idea to replace all four? They are most likely 15 years old and are all made of braided hose. The local west marine has them, but in non-braided, which ones are better? Also how hard is it to replace these? I have a Alpha One Gen II powered by a 4.3L Mercrusier 190hp carb. I am thinking of having the shop replace them as I am running of time and patience for DIY. Is this something easier and if so do you have any instructions and part numbers? I don't see many "how to's" online.

Thanks in advance,

It's best to replace all 4. Think- the leak will move to the next weakest link. Without serial numbers, drive type ext,we can't get you part numbers. They are pretty easy to replace.

My serial is 0L642966, though I think that is for the engine. I will have to look at the out drive when I get home to get it's serial as I don't have it documented with me right now.

You are looking for Item numbers 3, 9 & 10, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show_...YDRAULIC+HOSES

If you do it yourself, just be sure to have a good quality flare nut line wrench or you will easily round out the hose ends.

You'll also want to buy some Mercruiser power trim and steering fluid or equivalent to add more fluid. http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=...id&FORM=HDRSC2

If you don't move the trim rams while the hoses are disconnected, the trim pump is self bleeding by running the trim system up and down about 10 times. Check the fluid level while the trim is all the way down.

Where are they leaking? If at the fittings then sometimes they just need snugging up.

I took a couple of photos and with how dirty it is I managed to get this SN: 0L835138, I looked it up and first try I got the same 98 model year as my motor and it dose say Alpha One Gen II as well. The picture shows the same as you listed. The leak is occuring from where the #9 transitions from a hose to a the pipe, it doesn't look like a servicable part. I just ordered the parts, thank for the help.

I can't see anyway to remove a little metal retaining clip that is secured with two bolts from the arms. The out drive seems to be in the way, any suggestions?

Yes if raising or lowering the drive don't seem to help give you more room then you have to remove the E ring/clips (14 - 17 & possibly 13) at both ends of the cylinder rams and slide out or remove the rams from the assembly in order to gain more access to the retaining plate... item numbers 11 & 12, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show_...YDRAULIC+HOSES

I think there is water in the reservoir and the up trim isn't working all that well :(

Sure it's not air in the system? Air seems to give the fluid a different color sometimes. What fluid brand & color are you using?

I realized I didn't have enough time to work on this with all the other projects I have and I took it to my mechanic. He says the problem is not the hoses, but something else as the fluid that is coming out is blue, but the hydraulic fluid isn't blue and the lower unit oil is. I thought that I had water in my lines as the colors were different in my reservoir. Though now it makes a little more sense as the lower unit fluid was leaking out running down the hose and dripping off of it making it look like I had a leak on my hose. ><
