I'm running a 50 Yamaha on an 18' aluminum jon. I have quite a bit of poroising when lightly loaded. I was wondering if any one could give me some advise on hydrofoils (stingray, doelfin etc.) Which one is best and where to order them. I've heard of mostly good results with these things but don't know the extent of what's available. Don't want to drill on my motor for nothing! :) Thanks

Re: Hydrofoil stabilizer

Flatbottom, If you are running a bare bones jon
your running a pretty light boat that im sure is prone to porpoising.I had 2 doelfins One on a 15 ft Starcraft Nova with a 50 Rude. Fairly heavy for its size.It did wonders, planed easier, stayed on plane with less power and helped keep the bow from bounding around.Same thing on a 18ft. Cobia 120 IO.
They do reduce top speed slightly I dont think
you could tell without a speedo. I wonder if your boat may be at the max end of useful speed range.
Dont know if there is a limit just seems that
anything over 40 could be a problem.
I think they are terrific.

Try raising the cavitation plate 1" above the keel first. Check for concave cups in the bottom of the boat noteably near the transom to about 6 feet forward. Try changing the trim of the motor.
