I have a 1976 22' Reinell,with a Ford 351- 235 hp.
Boat is in excellant shape Motor runs great

It is very slow to get on plane. I am considering a hydrofoil but am concerned about extra stress on my outdrive ( this is non-trimming)
Has anybody had any experience with this combo?
All feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Herm

I definitely would not use a hydrofoil on your outdrive. They can help getting up on plane but often create other negative handling characteristics. Like someone else said, 'if they were any good , outdrive manufacturers would build a bigger cavitation plate'.

I would try these.

http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cg..._category=trim tab>nauticus&cart_id=471706470

You can do a search on them and find lots of comments.

Herm,

I have a 78' fourwinns 20' with the GM 305/800 series combo. I added a dolfin to it about a 2 years ago. It helped but by the end of the first year the lift stress created by the fin caused the rear stringer mounts to come loose, almost completly out! Very bad.
After this i have taken the fin off and will not put one back on again. If you decide to do this, make sure your motor mounts are very tight and check them regularly...

I would go with trim tabs instead if i do t again...

wes
