Hi everyone,
I have a 60hp hydroelectric drive Johnson outboard, model number: 60ESL-710 that came on an old trihull that I just picked up. It’s runs great other than when I put it in reverse, the prop spins forward. Both neutral and forward gears work without issue. I replaced the lower unit gear oil with appropriate type c oil before I took it out for the first time. Anyone else have this problem? Does this mean my lower unit is toast? Thanks

Check voltage to solenoids when in reverse...could be shifting switch in control box

Remove sparkplugs.----Find the wires that go into the lower unit.----Apply 12 volts to both green and blue.-----Turn flywheel with an 1-5/16" socket.----If you get reverse in just TWO turns there is nothing wrong in the gearcase.-----In my opinion these electric shift units are very good, reliable and easy to fix.----Most folks do not know how simple they are !
