I have a 2005 Glastron SX with a 4 cylinder 3.0 liter Volvo I/O. I installed a Cabela's Hydro troll trolling plate when it was new and now notice in their new advertising that it is not recommended for Volvos with through hub exhausts and don't even make it in vovo gray anymore. I haven't had any problems so far and was wondering about the reasoning for this exclusion and will it damage my engine at trolling speeds?

Re: Hydro-troll vs. Volvo Penta

Those thing aren't good for any motor. They put a bunch of load on the motor, and greatly increase the risk of water ingestion back thru the exhaust. They are not reccommended for volvo's. That should tell you all you need to know. Buy a trolling motor, save gas, and pollute less.

Ayuh,... I troll for Walleyes for hours on end,...
Deploying the trim tabs,+/or a set of drift socks off the bow, I can get down to sub-1mph...
