I recently purchased a 1969 55 hp johnson engine w/ a hydro electric shift lower end. can anyone tell me how this unit ends up in neutral because it is preloaded in forward gear until adequate pressure is built up to send the pump plunger forward to disengage the forward gear - that would seem to me that this unit - if even for a minimum amount of time is in gear while the motor is being started. Any comments would be appreciated

O.K Iam relying on recolection here but when you push the button to engage forward you are basically turning it off.No voltage at all. Neutral has its own solenoid as does reverse.
