I read somewhere that the 3 cylinder and v-4 units are interchangeable. Anyone got some input on this. I checked the numbers and they do not match. But I also have a 50hp lower unit form a year 68 that fits my 65 hp 1972 model. I am teying to get a 1972 65esl72s back in service. I have taken a chance on 2 lower units since i got it and neither have been serviceable. They have each had either broken gears or locked up. I am searchin and finding lost of v-4 hydro elec units. Any one know if they will work?
