Mercruiser alpha ford 233 hp 1977 outdrive. The "gray" hydraulic hose that runs from the trim sender to the "connector" broke. I cannot see the "connector" (connector is the term used where I purchased a new line). Is it at the bottom of the transom plate? If so, what is inolved in replacing it? Can it be achieved with the boat in the water? My guess is "no" but I am hoping someone can provide guidance.
Thanks in advance,
Jim

Re: hydraulic trim line

the housing where the hyd.lines connect at the bottom of the boat is held by 2 nuts. if theres a zinc, remove it first.remove the 2 nuts and pull the housing down.the 2 hyd. hoses connect here.there is also a gasket you need to replace also.
Ed

If its an alpha one or prolly any outdrive (I'm guessing) it cannot be gotten to in the water. As BtDoc mentioned follow the in/out lines from your trim cylinders and see where they connect. Once you remove the zinc you'll see the plate that needs to be removed. Running the new hyd hose is a PITA, not a whole lot of room, at least on my 350 w/alphs drive.

Re: hydraulic trim line

I replaced both of mine this spring and they were not really that bad, but it has to be done out of the water.

Re: hydraulic trim line

Installation went well! If anyone is interested, I first fed a wire (i would describe the wire as semi-stiff) through the transom plate (from the outside). Once the person inside the boat located the wire, I attached a heavy string to it, then tied the trim line to the string and the "inside" person pulled the trim line thru. We attached the trim line at the transom plate end first, bolted the connector back in place, then attached the other end of the line to the reverse lock switch. Hope this helps someone else in the future.
Thanks again,
Jim
