Hydraulic steering takes many turns to actually turn the boat

New (used) boat has hydraulic steering that you literally have to spin the wheel a number of turns to get it to turn, whether at slow speed or high speed. 23' pro-line with a 225Yamaha. Does not seem right to me, any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dennis

Should be roughly 4 turns lock-to-lock. You may have air in the system and needs to be bled out/repaired. Let the boat sit for 2-3 hours and turn the wheel slowly while watching the engine. It should move almost immediately when the wheel starts to move. If it doesn't, repairs are in order.

Ya, you have to have air in the system, challenge is to figure out how it got there.
