I'm replacing a Hynautic steering system with a SeaStar system on a
22' Tiara. My problem is with removing the helm, it's stuck and everything that I have tried is not working or I'm missing something. I removed the screws from the retaining ring on the top, removed the lines, and used a 3lb hammer and a block of wood to try and drive it down thru the dash....no luck this thing is rock solid!! Any ideas, I don't want to hurt the dash if I can help it, too late for the helm.

Stupid reply but did you check for a retaining ring of the inside? Changed my old Hynautic and it had one.
If you're still having a fit with it call these folks, very helpful :http://boaterstore.com/

I didn't see a retaining ring, it appears that the bottom diameter is larger than the top so it should go down, but I will look for a retaining ring...thanks for the information.

You are speaking of the H50-series helm, right? Round and sort of bell shaped? Nothing holds it except the four screws through the trim ring on the outside. And swollen wood in the dash if it was a tight fit when it was installed. And, possibly salt water corrosion if that applies. And possibly the installer gooped it up with caulking.
