21ft wellcraft
1980-1985 200hp black max MERC

I just got a old black max merc 80-85 im guessing. The hydraulic steering does not work. The wheel will turn and I can hear the faint clicking of the pump. but no outboard movement. The outboard will NOT turn even by hand it seems like i can move it an inch before the "perssure builds up"? ALSO i should mention the helm pump hoses run to a resiviour? which is also where the hoses from the motor shaft run to. The resiviour has a "tire valve" on the top.
SO my question might be...Until i get down to the boat store in the morning and pick up a new Clymers manual for the merc....How can i fill and bleed the steering? and what can I use? trim tilt fluid?
thanks in advance

Mr. "Praying to get a chance to nail some tarpon this weekend"

Re: hydraulic steering dead

Use Dexron auto fluid. Bleed it and then put the 20 lbs. pressure to it.
