I just bought a couple rapala husky jerks. My cousin who lives up north uses them all the time and swears by them (the reason i bought some). Have you guys had any sucess with them?? I'm anxious to try for some pike along weed beds at dusk,or some eyes coming up shallow to feed.

I've had good success with husky jerks this season. Hot pink and light greens being trolled off planer boards have scored a few eyes.

I like Husky Jerks, but I like the Suspending Rogue better. Great cold water bait.

Re: Husky Jerks

Hey Pony, I think that's the first lure I ever bought! I caught a couple Bass on it, but that's about it. I'm not a big fan of those lightweight lures, only because I find it really boring to keep casting it out, jerking it a bit, waiting, etc... I just don't have the patience, but based on a lot of other opinions, they work well on eyes in the shallows. Just gotta get on some fish to find out! That's the hard part. :)

Caught some big walleyes trolling them in the fall and one big smallmouth bass. Don't seem to be a very good bait in the summer for me.

Re: Husky Jerks

For those that don't know, the rapala husky jerks are not a surface lure. They are a suspending minnow that has internal rattles. Looks much like a floating rapala, but a bit plumper.

I have had some great days fishing for pike where the only lure used was a big hj in silver/black, or firetiger, size 14 I think. Cast and retrieve or slow trolling. I have a couple that look like small rainbow trout, never even got a strike on those. ??

Took my nephew out a couple years ago, 4 hours on the water.
I ran the boat and played with the silver/black hj, while he used a variety of lures. I put 20 northern in the boat that afternoon.
It was an extraordinary day on the water, not to be forgotten.

I agree with Ron that they are a cold water bait. They really don't have a lot of action. I used the Rapala X-Rap this spring on my home reservoir for post spawn Walleye. They ate it up. It has more roll & wobble thant the H-Jerk.
