I am looking at buy this 231. I love to fish and am looking at the triton, nautic star 22'. My wife loves the hurricane for all the amenities and seating. How does this boat work for fishing? Am sacrificing too much?

Re: Hurricane GS231

The odd numbered Hurricanes work well for inshore and lake fishing. Its not a bass boat, but you can mount a trolling motor on the bow, and the draft is shallow enough to get you into some fairly shallow spots. The hull design makes the boat very stable to move around on stopped or at trolling speeds. The seats can get in the way, but works pretty well if you are the only guy fishing, since you can stay on the bow, and the bow mounted chair is nice. You will probably have to add some rod holders, and the live well is a little on the small side.

Not a great choice for offshore fishing due to the hull design. You will get beat around and passengers will get wet in anything more than light to moderate chop. I would be afraid to take it too far offshore unless weather was perfect.

I fish off mine on a fairly large lake, and it works well. Plus its nice to be able to stow the fishing gear and entertain family and friends, pull the kids on a tube or wakeboard, or just cruise the lake.
