I noticed a couple posts regarding repairs on the old depth sounders with a 3.5" display and seperate power/sensitivity knob. I just had one stop working completely so decided to disassemble it. What I found was two seperate circuit boards within the housing, one had the motor with the orange strobe and the other has the power and main circuitry.
After testing the power circuit I found a 1ohm resistor, R1 was open. I had the resistor replaced and the unit started working again but I found the strobe light bulb had come loose and was hitting the inside of the housing. I believe that is what caused the power circuit to clear in the first place.
A little Loctite 454 took care of the loose bulb and now it's back in the boat and I don't have to figure out what to do with 2 empty holes in the dash.
