Wide 100 will show depth but no structure or fish makers. When I try to change the setting a verticle bar appears, freezes the screen and the function controls. I have to remove power source to reset unit. Is this unit dead or can this be repaired.

This is an older unit, and HB might not repair them any more. It is also a lower-end unit that if a repair is possible, the cost of an equivelent new unit would probably be the better way to go.

Your description suggests a bad head unit, but worth it to check all wiring and connections, includng cuts, or damage to transducer cable, connector pins, and power cable.

That is a older lower end unit. If it has served you well for this long, be happy and toss it.
Good news is that you can buy a replacement head/unit on ebay for under $20 (and maybe under $10 .) Better news is that ANY of the wide series ( Wide Eye, portrate, 128 , 100, etc) will pop right onto your existing base and use your existing transducer.

You would need to research that for any HB head unit you would want to consider buying. The tilt/swivel bracket is the same, but which plug the transducer uses varies by unit. I believe the Wide 100 (and other single beam units) uses a different 2-pin connector than the Wide Portrait and Wide Eye, for the transducer. The HB units that use the "house" shaped connector, which can have upto 7 pins, will not work with the 2 pin different connector. These units do have a male plug for that 2 pin connector, but no actual pins connected to the electronics.

Actually, I may need to stand corrected here. I had a Wide eye and used to plug in a spare wide portrate on occasion. My buddy had a dead 100 on his boat, I gave him the wide portrate and he "said" it fit, but I never did witness it myself. Should be simple enough if you look at the xducedr connections on both. If in doubt, buy another wide 100.

When HB moved on to the matrix units, they did away with the 2-pin transducer connector. It was modified to be the comm connection for gps and other accessories. The matrix connector configuration is still used today in the 700 series, and probably some of the lower series. HB sells converter cables ($24), but its just not worth it to salvage the transducer, IMO.
